National Institute for School Leadership (NISL)

MRVED Administrators Participate in NISL

March 06, 2008

As a part of MRVED’s Math Science Partnership grant, 24 administrators from MRVED member schools participated in the NISL Instructional Leadership Institute, a nationally renowned leadership program. According to NISL, their Instructional Leadership Institute is “designed to increase the capacity of school leadership teams to improve instructional practices that will lead to higher student performance. The work of the Institute focuses on what school leaders need to know and be able to do in order to provide the guidance and direction of sustained instructional improvement leading to higher student achievement.”

“The Institute pays particular attention to the vision for and beliefs about students’ capabilities; distributed instructional leadership; analysis and use of data to drive instructional practice; effective practices in literacy and mathematics; promoting knowledge through learning communities; and sustaining improvements through leadership and systems thinking.”

The Leadership Institute was held June 10-12 and 17-18 in Montevideo. Administrators participated in activities that will allow them to apply the knowledge gained in the Institute to their work in their school districts. The MRVED is proud to have partnered with NISL, the Consortium for Post-secondary Academic Success at the University of Minnesota, and the Minnesota Department of Education to bring this incredible opportunity to our districts.
